Hello everyone. I am Masaru Hori of the Hori-Ishikawa Laboratory.
In our laboratory, we are studying about plasma and its applications. Someone you know, I'd like to ask you about plasma? In the Universe, plasma is filling everywhere. Look inside your smart phone, there are many devices. They are manufactured almost by plasma. AI and robots, digital technology have supported our society, further our goal is creation of a new digital society. The United Nations has designed the SDGs. The goals are for us to achieve sustainable development forever. There are many plasma technologies that could be solutions to achieve the goals. In the other word, the plasma science and technologies can be developed by us.
We can create the society of the future and contribute to the new generations. We do research the plasma science and technology. A person who does the research will get a power of humanity skills. So we are studying the plasma while developing our humanity skills. We believe that the most important thing is to spend your undergraduate life even through graduate life. To make your student life more active and effective, I hope you acquire the plasma, then you are active always in your life even after graduate.
We are currently studying on innovative carbon materials created by plasma. There are remaining the research but high performance batteries and high sensitive sensors will be realized.
I am studying for development of the next generation memory. The memory is one of electronic devices for storing of information. High performance and miniaturized memories enable better electronic devices, that is, we can make the next smart phone with high quality.
My research is the development of plasma processing for nanofabrication. We can use plasma to make atomic scale features, smaller than viruses.
I am preparing to culture human cells. What is a purpose of the experiments ? When cells are treated with plasma, normal cells live, but only cancer cells die. Now we are developing a new cancer therapy.
I am keeping experimental fishes. Plasma has a power of activation of life somehow transforming from a power of electricity. Too much will kill it, as if plasma is like lightening or fire. In good conditions, for an example, we have data that fish can grow bigger. My research is to find out why this is possible and the mechanism behind this.
